Reading and writing are processes that are developed from the early stages of formal education, shaping literate individuals, the sense of the plans and programs of the basic level, as well as the upper secondary and higher levels, is that students improve their reading and writing habits.In this paper we consider the need to develop strategies that help university students to foster professional maturity through critical reading as a potential factor in academic writing. The difference that exists between writing and academic writing is highlighted, the latter as an intellectual exercise that manages metacognitive processes in the writer.
