The protection of internal combustion engines in cars and other powered equipment is one of the most common uses for lubricants, specifically motor oil. The quality and types of lubricating oil lead to an increase in the lifetime of the machine and regulate the machine operating temperatures. So, nowadays, it’s important to enhance the tribological and rheological characteristics of lubricating oils by adding different additives. Nanoparticles dispersed in lubricating oils can enhance their properties, such as thermal conductivity, pour point, flash point, and reduction of wear, thus reducing emissions and saving fuel. Because of the ever-increasing demand for lubricants, a significant amount of work has been done to modify lubricating oils with additives to improve their overall properties. In recent years, many researchers have focused their efforts on studying lubricant oil additives to enhance lubricating characteristics. The goal of this review article is to showcase the work done in the area of lubricating oil with different additives for engine oil.
