Pre-vocational education/education or vocational orientation is understood as a pedagogical contribution to orientation in vocational education and in the world of work and careers at the interface to the increasingly necessary vocational orientation and political education/education of adolescents and students in shaping future social relationships. In Austria, pre-vocational education is legally assigned to schools as 'vocational orientation' and to the Public Employment Service (AMS) as preparation for the choice of school or university - and subsequently career choice. Even elementary school prepares students for career-related educational goals, which are then continued in secondary and tertiary education with aspects of personal development. Adult education increasingly has the task of providing vocational education and training within the framework of adult vocational education, offering pre-vocational measures for certain groups in general adult education, and newer aspects of pre-vocational education are emerging in teacher training and vocational education at the Institutes of Education.
