The first 12 chapters, and chapters 14-16 describe the human condition, life for humans in the earth’s environment, and living in the earth’s environment.Chapter thirteen is a novel describing a real-life type of existence. The main character in chapter thirteen is John Stewart. John is the son of a well-off family in Chicago, Illinois. John’s parents, Norm and Gladys, own the Stewart Importing Company, a company started by John’s great grandfather James. The company imported a variety of goods from all over the world, but their main imports now came from China. John was given the responsibility for the Chinese imports and initially spent many months in China. John’s main contact was Zhong Lu, a vice president of the Matsui Distribution Company, and Zeng Lin, an employee, who was assigned to help John. Zeng Lin was to arrange John’s flights, accommodation, and any other travel arrangements that had to be made in China, to all John’s other exporting clients. Zeng Lin accompanied John on one of his initial tours of his clients across China.While in China, John came to know a set of twins and decided that he would help them with their schooling, and show them the popular travel attractions of China, the United States and Canada. The twins became very well-educated adults with excellent social skills. Chapter thirteen basically records John and the twin’s experiences.
