Most of the poems and prose pieces in Scattered Leaves were written by René Crevel in 1924, eleven years before he committed suicide. Consequently, Scattered Leaves was first published posthumously in French. Scattered Leaves contains some of Crevel’s most personal and poignant poems. It also foreshadows his death. This edition includes a short autobiography. D M Mitchell’s unsettling collages, which successfully evoke the atmosphere of the era that Crevel’s poems were written in, parallel the oneiric content of the poems rather than literally illustrating them. This is the first ever English translation of René Crevel’s Scattered Leaves.
