McCoy’s Psychological Solutions is a collection of essays that contains information on the early causes of homosexuality and sexual disorders. The two basic mental processes that cause these problems are explained. This information is most valuable for new parents who only need to understand these problems to help their children avoid them. Also, this book will help the counselor identify the exact cause of their patient’s problem when they are concerned about homosexuality, transsexuality, or paraphilia. Because homosexuality and paraphilia are presented as problems developed in childhood and adolescence that parents can prevent, this material may be difficult for some to accept. However, factual information creates understanding. Those who read both Parts 1 and 2 should readily understand the applicable situations or conditions that cause confused sexuality and paraphilia. McCoy states, “Homosexuality is programmed with the exact same mental processes that are used to program heterosexuality.” That is an important theory, but understanding his attitude toward the sociological and anthropological problems involved can be of greater value. This is not a book that adolescents can easily read; nevertheless, it is our concern that they have the opportunity to gain the factual knowledge necessary to quickly understand and cope with their sexuality constructively and intelligently. With accurate analysis, this book bridges the gulf between America’s religions and society in general. Occasionally, this is in reference to the religious fundamentalists who blames the homosexual for his homosexuality rather than the conditions or situations that cause it. The solutions to many of our psychological and sociological problems are often only found in empirical evidence established directly or indirectly on religious ideologies, especially Christianity. Estimated statistical tabulations may only help to illustrate the scope or importance of these problems.
