In a world submerged in advertising and branding, we are constantly sold a story about the meaning of a Symbol. But symbols mean nothing in themselves. It is human beings that attach the narrative to the graphic. Accordingly, we can create our own, and place our own meaning and values into them. And that is just what Richmond, Virginia artist, Gary Llama did. Over the course of a month and a half in 2016, Gary created a series of work, 'Pennants'. He decided to put all of the things he wished for in the world: tolerance, compassion, knowledge, among others, behind a graphical image. He then made a series of work featuring this symbol. 'Pennants' is a catalog, in book form, of the resulting pieces.
