Three things happened simultaneously. The shark circled, Alistair swam frantically towards safety and his family waved excitedly from the shore, oblivious to the danger. As he scrambled onto the beach, Alistair realised that Australia was proving to be an exciting country. Months earlier, the migration seminars had promised endless summers, balmy evenings and a laidback lifestyle. But what was it really like? Thirteen years after arriving Down Under, Alistair has written a collection of short stories about living, travelling and working in Australia. During this time he has been on walkabout with Aborigines, worked on remote mine sites, witnessed the urban sprawl of modern Australia and forged new friendships in a world half a world away from the one he left behind. The stories uncover the yearning to migrate to Australia, the exhilaration of travelling to the outback and the realisation that emigration has changed his life forever.
