Il buon rendimento in matematica rimane una sfida per la maggior parte degli studenti namibiani. Anno dopo anno, molti studenti di grado 10 e 12 ottengono risultati molto scarsi in questa materia, il che limita le loro possibilità di accedere all’istruzione terziaria. Una delle ragioni degli scarsi risultati in matematica evidenziate dalla ricerca è lo scarso sviluppo del senso dei numeri durante gli anni della scuola primaria. Lo scopo di questo studio è stato quello di scoprire come gli insegnanti della scuola primaria hanno compreso lo sviluppo del senso numerico, la sua importanza per fare matematica e come la comprensione di questo aspetto chiave da parte degli insegnanti influenzi il modo in cui insegnano lo sviluppo del senso numerico.
