Este livro é um contributo para a análise das dinâmicas espaciais em curso nas pequenas cidades do interior do país, também designadas por cidades secundárias, cujos processos de evolução, recomposição e governação diferem dos das antigas cidades regionais, essencialmente administrativas. A abordagem metodológica assenta numa abordagem tradicional que envolve uma revisão bibliográfica, inquéritos quantitativos e qualitativos e uma análise diacrónica das alterações espaciais com base na monitorização por teledeteção e no tratamento de imagens de satélite.Este estudo evidenciou o crescimento espacial e o desenvolvimento rápido das áreas construídas em detrimento das terras agrícolas, conduzindo a uma recomposição progressiva do território municipal e da sua periferia. Por conseguinte, as autoridades locais devem tomar decisões para melhorar o planeamento urbano.
