Stanley Lane-Poole was an archaeologist and orientalist, but he also wrote many works on other subjects too. This particular book is on numismatics (the study or collection of currency). It is an essay based on an article Lane-Poole presented in the ’Numismatic Chronicle’, in 1873, which attempts to catalogue some of the collections of coins from the Urtuki Turkumans. It includes plates of these coins and translations to their inscriptions. To compliment the republication of this work, a brand new introductory biography of the author has been added.
