Expulsado de su hogar luego de enamorarse de Cunegunda, Cándido inicia un viaje que estará lleno de sinsabores: guerras, persecuciones, naufragios y terremotos. A lo largo de su viaje por Europa, América y Asia, presencia la hipocresía religiosa, la violencia de la Inquisición, la esclavitud y la corrupción política. En su recorrido, Cándido encuentra lugares como Eldorado, una utopía donde la gente vive en paz y con abundancia, pero termina abandonándola por amor a Cunegunda. Este libro contiene, además, otros de los grandes cuentos y ensayos de Voltaire: El hombre de los 40 escudos, Guerra, Tortura, Una aventura india, El blanco y el negro, Zadig o el destino e Historia de los viajes de Escarmentado.  Sobre el autor: VOLTAIRE. Su verdadero nombre era François-Marie Arouet Voltaire. Nació en París el 21 de noviembre de 1694 y falleció en esa misma ciudad el 30 de mayo de 1778. Escritor, historiador, filósofo, poeta, dramaturgo y abogado.
