Como o personagem principal é um apaixonado por pipa, há uma leve introdução de como se procedia a realização desta brincadeira. No decorrer, Biruba mostra suas habilidades no manuseio desta, paralelamente a situações que se apresentam. Tendo como coadjuvantes amigos em comum, vão aparecendo outras brincadeiras ou apenas relatos de pura amizade. Dezesseis histórias são poucas para se contar o universo de um grupo de garotos na pré-adolescência, mas não deixa de ser um começo. Biruba e seus amigos aproveitam bem essa fase da idade. Dividem os bons momentos. Colecionam vivenciando dias memoráveis. Não deixam em momento algum, suas obrigações escolares de lado, entretanto, nos intervalos, procuram juntos saciarem suas: fome de bola; fissura de pipa; ganância de bola de gude; desafio de pião; brincadeira de festa junina etc. Biruba, Caveirinha, Jerônimo, Celso, Luizinho Português, Gaguinho, Café, Piolho, Edvaldo, Zé Urubu, Marcos o russo e Julinho dão vida às histórias contadas em dezesseis capítulos. Já que o assunto principal é pipa, seu Elpídio convida a todos a conhecerem um pouco mais sobre a história do aparecimento desta. Apesar de a princípio se tratar de uma ficção, seus relatos podem e se encaixam perfeitamente no cotidiano de meninos espalhados por esses bairros, estados, países. Criança é criança em qualquer lugar, mesmo com culturas diferentes. O paraíso foi perdido no exato momento em que os homens abandonaram a leveza brincalhona das crianças e optaram pela gravidade séria dos adultos. Lamento quem não teve uma infância cheia de amigos e brincadeiras, mas já para os que se identificarem com as peripécias dos pequenos, imagino que fará bem a lembrança. Se acaso faltar alguma brincadeira, peço paciência, pois as histórias estão só começando. Vem mais. Afinal, sendo garotos o mundo é pequeno para tanta imaginação.
