The novel 5G network will enable enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services, and create huge potential for new value-added wireless services through a wide range of new use cases. These new use cases include fibres-equivalent Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services, massive Internet of Things (IoTs) services, Internet of Medical Things (IoMTs), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoTs) and critical IoTs - enabling new applications in the automotive, manufacturing, energy & utilities and healthcare sectors, among several other innovations. However, the previous generations of Radio Access Network (RAN) standards, which were deployed as stand-alone networks, the novel 5G new radio (NR) is designed from the start to interwork fully with existing 4G LTE networks. While this provides a high degree of continuity and seamless experience for users, it also demands careful planning in order to minimize risk to existing services and infrastructures. To ensure smooth passage of the novel 5G network , operators need to look ahead and identify the deployment approach which makes best use of existing investments and best supports their own business strategies in order to dominate the market space.
